CLII Portal - Invite Colleagues

Invite your university colleagues to join the CLII Community of Practice focused on awareness of innovative efforts, colleagial sharing, and activities to promote the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (T&L).

1. If your colleagues are interested or engaged in doing innovative teaching and learning, you might want to let them know about CLII 'virtual community'.

2. To introduce them to the CLII community and the associated program elements, you may want to point them to the Innovation by Design portal at http://www.fipp.net.

3. You might mention the various CLII program elements (see Regional Center on top bar on left) - and click on "CLII Community". You may begin by introducing them to: a) Innovation by Design website and communication tools; and b) Dissemination and Liaison 'community of practice' events and activities.

You may want to share a few membership benefits:

  • Provides opportunity to showcase innovative teaching and learning efforts to larger audience across the country, world
    Members are invited to IP video conferences (Town Hall meetings) held monthly (see Calendar of Events);
  • Other events, such as the Design Studio, are held to foster community relationships and sharing of experiences, opportunities to learn from one another;
  • Opportunity to develop relationships with colleagues in non-threatening environment and at your own pace
    Search for members with common interests, and join those neighborhoods to help foster collaboration, or start your own neighborhood (you might need to explain the neighborhood concept);
  • Activities and events specifically targeted for future faculty.

4. Explain how the Search tools function; using the Search engine may locate 'content' (i.e. prs) contained within Profile Title as well as throughout the 'content' of the Innovation Profile Summary. Aids in finding areas of interest and new innovation ideas because they are not limited by pre-defined key terms and functions similiar to "Google' search engine.

  • May also search by person's name, if known
  • May also look at directory of existing neighborhoods, to see if a neighborhood exists that matches their research or teaching interest or simply something they would like to learn more about
  • Individuals visiting the Innovation by Design portal do not have to be CLII members, in order to use the Search features
  • CLII members have privileges which provide them access to the Town Center suite of tools that help promote connection, community, and communication
  • Membership in any community warrants a level of citizen conduct and professional code (for more information please visit our Governance)

5. To request a CLII membership, click on Join Now, and complete the required fields and submit. You should receive email notification with your username and password.

(NOTE: At this time users CANNOT change their own password, but in case of a forgotten password, they can contact User Assistance to have it resent to them via email.)

6. New members should introduce themselves to the Community by creating a biography page. They could begin interacting with colleagues and sharing their innovations through the development of profiles.

7. To gain more familiarity with the Community metaphors, explore the Portal Roadmap.

8. Take a look at the User Guide which articulates the Innovation by Design portal features and the status of implementation of those features under the Getting Started link.

9. At any point along the way, members may request assistance through our Feedback form under the Help Menu in using the CLII portal features and tools.
